This session will introduce board members and other volunteers to the essentials of financial management for nonprofits.
The topics to be discussed include:
- Important regulations and annual filing requirements for nonprofit societies and charities;
Nonprofit financial statements and accounting fundamentals;
Nonprofit financial planning – methods and concerns;
Important considerations when applying for funding;
Important financial internal controls for board due diligence and to protect the organization.
About the Presenter:
Normand Gendron, MBA, CPA, is an Assistant Professor of Accounting and Taxation at Mount Saint Vincent University and Coordinator of the Nonprofit Leadership Program and the university CVITP tax clinic. He has over 30 years of experience managing the accounting, finances, information technology, human resources, and program development for several charities and nonprofits, and for municipal government.

Volunteer Symposium
Every year, KVRC hosts a daylong Volunteer Leadership Symposium each spring, featuring keynote speakers and timely workshops related to volunteer leadership and nonprofit management.
This workshop will focused on understanding the strengths and challenges which neurodivergent people bring to the workplace.
Volunteers are a critical resource for so many businesses and organizations. Persons who are neurodivergent often want to volunteer and have some exceptional skills which can provide a vital resource in these times of fewer people volunteering. This workshop will focused on understanding the strengths and challenges which neurodivergent people bring to the workplace. Creating an environment that allows these volunteers to feel comfortable and carry out volunteer opportunities successfully will be discussed. Strategies and supports that can be incorporated into the environment will be described. Tips for supervisors and others working with neurodivergent volunteers will be provided along with a question and answer session. A neurodivergent young woman who would love to volunteer more will also provide her views on what barriers she faces when searching for fulfilling volunteer and work opportunities.
