Position: School Program Instructor

Description: Join the Museum of Natural History’s volunteer team as a School Program Instructor and work with elementary students in an interactive, educational setting! Volunteers gain experience in public speaking, working with youth, and working in a museum, as well as knowledge of Nova Scotia’s natural and cultural heritage. Volunteers are also able to expand their network of professional contacts and participate in professional development opportunities.
Volunteers will assist with the set up, take down, and delivery of the Museum’s school programs to a variety of classes.
Training Details: Volunteers complete a training session with Museum staff and observe a program with students before working directly with the classes. All training materials are provided. Depending on the weekday selected, volunteers may be trained in one or more programs.
Working Conditions: Volunteers who facilitate our education programs must be 18 years of age and enjoy working with elementary-age students in a lively environment. The Museum is open to the general public and is home to a selection of live animals including frogs, snakes, turtles and honey bees.
Minimum Duration: 4 - 6 months
Timing: Weekday - Daytime
Time Detail: Volunteers are required to commit to one set morning a week for a three hour shift (9:00am-12:00pm), for a period of three months in the Fall and/or Spring terms (October, November and December for the fall term, and April, May and June for the spring term). School program availability in January and February is weather dependent.
