Position Virtual Volunteer Companion for Persons with Disabilities - Connect Today with United Way
Impact Statement Due to COVID-19, there is an increased strain placed on everyone and a decrease in social interactions and social connectedness. Individuals who normally are active participants of society are spending more time at home, and in some cases without the support normally received by trusted family members or friends. We are doing a call for volunteer companions for individuals living with disabilities.

As a volunteer companion with United Way Cape Breton, you will be helping to improve lives and build community on the island of Cape Breton by supporting the engagement of individual living with disabilities within our community.
Description This position is a virtual volunteering opportunity that volunteers will complete remotely, from the safety and comfort of their own home. The hours will depend on the demand of the participants as well as the availability of the volunteers. We have reached out to various organizations to address the specific needs of individuals living with disabilities within our community. This program is designed to allow for individuals with disabilities who may be missing out on in-person activities they normally would take part in, to connect with others in a fun, social, and educational way. There will be a virtual meeting with United Way Cape Breton staff prior to the volunteers’ first sessions with participants, as well as check-ins during sessions from United Way Cape Breton staff throughout the Virtual Companion Program for Individuals Living with Disabilities.
