Position: Venue Team - Volunteer Services - 2020 North American Indigenous Games
Impact Statement: Halifax (K’jipuktuk) has been chosen to host the 2020 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG), which will be the largest multi-sport event to be held in Nova Scotia. This also marks the first time the NAIG will be hosted in Atlantic Canada, where games and cultural celebrations will take place over eight days from July 12-18, 2020.



Halifax will welcome over 5000 Indigenous athletes from across Canada and the United States to compete in 16 different sporting categories. Thousands of visitors, volunteers, and spectators will experience a cultural celebration not only at our at our Cultural Village on the Commons, but throughout the entire NAIG games. New friendships will be created among the athletes, coaches, officials, partners and over 3,000 volunteers from across Turtle Island!
Description: Provide consistent information between Volunteer Services and the Venue Team (VTeam). Work with other members of the VTeam identifying requirements for volunteers at your respective venue.
Assist in scheduling of volunteers during Games time and venue-specific or job-specific training of volunteers. Oversee volunteer check-in and Manage any accreditation request or issues for volunteers and athletes.
Keep track of all volunteer issues and liaise with Volunteer Centre and VTeam Leader in resolving them.
Serve as the point of contact for all volunteers at their respective venue.
Qualifications:
Experience with leadership volunteer positions, and ability to lead sub committee
Excellent communication skills
Excellent planning and organization skills
Well-developed problem solving and decision making skills.
Positive, friendly attitude
Ability to maintain composure in potentially stressful situations.
Ability to bring human resources skills to the table
Training Details: Training and Orientation will be provided by the 2020 North American Indigenous Games Host Society.
Working Conditions: Monthly committee meetings from August 2019 - May 2020, moving to weekly in June 2020
Weekly tasks averaging 5-7 hours per week depending on scope of role and time of year
Attendance at Mission staff and Executive Meetings may be required.
Available for periodic training meetings
In person, on site availability from July 12 - July 18, 2020.
Availability 3-5 days post games to assist with venue decommissioning
