Community Inclusion Society
Community INC is a non-profit organization that was formed in 2001 to partner with the disability community to promote inclusion and equity. Initially, the specific role was to respond to the identified needs of the disability community in relation to employment related services offered in the Kings and Annapolis counties of Nova Scotia. Through our most significant funding stream, we now provide employment related services to ALL job seekers, employers and youth in Kings county, but maintain a focus on ensuring that the disability community continues to receive services specific to their strengths and needs. Community INC has developed partnerships in recent years to expand and increase service delivery reach. In partnership with CMHA-Kings, Community INC is managing one of the new Nova Scotia Works centres which offers employment related services to job seekers and employers. Together we are also developing a program for the regional office of the Department of Community Services to provide programming to individuals who desire change in respect to improved mental and physical wellness and social engagement. Community INC has also partnered with The Portal to deliver, on behalf of the Department of Community Services, one of the two sites for an Early Intervention Pilot for youth ages 18-26 newly in receipt of income assistance. This new program called EDGE, is an innovative, responsive and interactive approach to youth focused employment service delivery. Other projects include a free interview clothing program called Dress to Impress, a cell phone donation program and also the Spotlight on Employment workshop series – a job search support program funded by the Department of Community Services offered at key times in the year
